Eagle River

While Anchorage, only around 30 minutes driving away, at that time of the year, is only slowly preparing for the winter, up here in the Eagle River valley the winter had already arrived with temperatures below 0°C almost all day long and permanent snow. A perfect time to go on a hike here, especially when the weather is as perfectly fine as it was when this photo was taken. Some trails were closed due to increased bear presence but there were enough left open to hike for at least a full day.
When hiking in Alaska one has to take additional precautions. Additionally to catering for the terrain by wearing decent shoes, and for the weather with adequate clothing, one has to consider the possibility of encountering large wild animals like moose or bears. So before venturing out into the wild, one should make oneself familiar with the specific precautions to take.
